What Is Reiki?

  • Meaning and Origin

The term “reiki” comes from the Japanese words “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” which means vital life force energy that flows through all living things.

This life force can be felt as love, light, hope, inspiration. It can be experienced differently by each person, but is often felt as a feeling of expansion or relaxation.

  • The Healing Power of Reiki

Reiki is a form of energy work derived from the belief that all life is made from energy and light. Essentially, the Reiki practitioner becomes a willing channel for the healing life force energy to flow into the client. Though often immeasurable, Reiki has concrete benefits. Some of the benefits people have been known to experience are:

    -A feeling of deeper relaxation

    -A more positive attitude

    -Improved mood

    -Improved sleep

    -Reduced pain

    -Reduced stress levels

-A shift in perception or insights about a situation in one’s life.

  • The Session

In an in person session, the client relaxes on a massage table face up and fully clothed while the practitioner applies energy and healing touch. The practitioner may place their hands gently on the client’s body or rest them above the client’s body, depending on client comfort and preference.

In a virtual session, the client may get comfortable and sit or lie down, as preferred, to receive the Reiki energy transmitted remotely.

The practitioner and client begin by checking in. The client is invited to share any pertinent information as well as any intentions for the Reiki session. If desired, the client may draw a card from one of the practitioner’s healing card decks.

When the client is ready to begin the session on the table, the practitioners usually begins with an invocation or guided visualization to help the client ground and relax.

Throughout the session, the pracitioner uses various hand movements, positions, and symbols to lightly touch or hover over various parts of the client’s body while they are face up and possibly face down. Throughout the session, the practitioner focuses specifically on their intent for healing and on letting the Reiki energy go where it is needed.

Afterwards, the practitioner will share any insights or imagery that came to mind and the client is invited to share their experience.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
